Body Shaming in Today’s Society: Female Celebrities Take

Female Body Shaming

Body shaming in today’s society has become widely prevalent. Celebrities in particular are under constant pressure to look a certain way, as they are always in the public eye and scrutinised by their fans and the media.

This pressure is incredibly stressful and can lead to unhealthy habits, like over-exercising and extreme dieting, just to conform to unrealistic body ideals. However, over time, more female celebrities have come out to speak out about their experiences and are actively taking a stand against the detriments of body shaming.

Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato, a popular singer, has a known history of challenging body shamers on social media. However, in early 2021, People magazine exposed a body-shaming headline written about them as she was coming out of rehabilitation. The headline was brutal, noting that she had a “fuller figure,”causing her to want to quit, use, and ultimately give up.”

Not only did she go on Instagram, post a screenshot of the article on her story, and add the caption “I AM MORE THAN MY WEIGHT,” she disregarded those articles too. She made a promise to herself to stop reading these harmful stories, avoiding negativity, and following an “out of sight, out of mind” mentality.

Ariana Grande

Most of the time, when we think of body shaming, our minds naturally think of fat phobia. However, Ariana Grande has been forced to speak out about public body-shaming regarding her looking “too skinny,” “anorexic,” and “unhealthy.”

When filming a brief three-minute video, the singer urged people to stop making snide comments about others bodies. Most significantly, they revealed that what the public consider her “healthiest” body was actually in reality, not healthy, because she was eating poorly and drinking antidepressants. Bringing the topic of mental health into the conversation, she added that “you never know what someone is going through,” truly.

Megan Fox

Last on our list is Megan Fox, who is highly regarded as one of the most beautiful celebrities. In a new Instagram photo, an internet troll commented, “All that money and she can’t buy a razor. She’s now off my list,” referring to a dark mark that was observed on her upper body.

Clapping back, the actress replied, “Are you mistakenly referring to my tattoo?.” Fox does not let her haters ruin her day, and her response was praised as “confident” and “witty.” Many fans backed her up, saying even though it was not actually her body hair, body hair is still completely normal, which is very much true.

All Bodies are Beautiful

In the midst of toxicity, it should be acknowledged that many female celebrities are using their platforms in different ways, whether it be savagely clapping back or respectfully asking the public to be considerate and respectful, it is extremely inspiring nonetheless.

Body shaming is a detriment that should be eliminated entirely, and one’s figure should never be judged as we never know what is going on behind the scenes.
