Poem: Upwards

Underground lies all I know and live for, but I hear of

Precious expression through these segments named “petals,”

Which conjures no yearning or longing,

And I feel content in my confinement, in my growing downwards, but what if

Release and “bold” is what will make me feel…feel less

Desolate in here? Less congested in here?

Should I try growing upwards?

Hey! I’m Alejandra, a sophomore at Homewood High School. I'm a huge fan of Harry Styles, but I enjoy listening to all genres - my favorites ranging from salsa to modern folk. I also enjoy watching New Girl, reading, and working out!
