Seven Songs for your Back to School Playlist

COVID-19 has upset the lives of many people. Sometimes it can be hard to find joy in the trying times we find ourselves in. One of the things I like to take part in is listening to music. This helps ease some of the stress that society is facing. Music is a nice getaway and can be a comfort effort during these times. In the midst of this pandemic, we are now going back to school. This can add so much more stress to an already intense situation.

School this year will be very different for everyone and can cause a lot of anxiety. For most students, going back to school brings an end to summer fun and causes a lot of uneasiness and nervousness. On top of this, we now are in a pandemic with a large amount of cases and no end in sight. This year, some students are going back to school as they traditionally would but wearing a mask and having to follow social distancing guidelines and others are staying at home to complete a virtual option of school. Both options are not an ideal way to go back. Along with this, Senior students are applying to college during a pandemic which means a lot of the opportunities they had for the summer were not available due to COVID. When faced with these issues, people are trying to take away the tension in their lives. I have created a list of seven songs that are a variety of great additions to a back to school playlist. Some of the songs are upbeat and really give the listeners a feeling of a coming of age teen moment. Others are a little bit more chill for listeners who just need a break from school stress. These songs are personally some of my favorites and will be playing on my way to school this fall. Enjoy!

“Watermelon Sugar” – Harry Styles (2019)
Styles’ hit is a fun, summer song that can lift the spirits of almost anyone who listens to it. This is a great song for the first day if you want to really jam out on your ride to school.“Different” – The Academic (2015)
This song is a bit more chill than some others on the list but a great song nonetheless. The vibes are free to flow with this song. The academic is also a great band in general if you need a good lift in spirit.

“Sunday Best” – Surfaces (2019)
This is hands down one of the most feel good songs that I have heard in a long time. This song helps you forget your troubles and makes you feel like you are at the beach. I would definitely give this one a listen on the first day.

“Maniac” – Conan Gray (2019)
One of my personal favorite songs to yell at the top of your lungs. This is a great song to turn up in the car and just let the vibes flow. Great coming of age moments come from this song.

“Blinding Lights” – The Weekend (2020)
Tiktok set this song up for greatness when the trend with this song began. Although, the weekend has never failed to produce hit songs. This song is one of the only redeeming things about 2020. This is a must add to your playlist because it has an intricate beat.

“Adore You” – Harry Styles (2019)
Harry Styles never fails to produce great music that appeals to a diverse group of listeners. “Adore You” and “Watermelon Sugar” appeared on the 2019 album Fine Line. This song is enticing due to how fun you can feel while listening.

“Breathe Deeper” – Tame Impala (2020)
Tame Impala recently dropped a new album in which “Breathe Deeper” appears on. This song provides a chill vibe and is more of an upbeat elevator song. But, this song can definitely help you dance away back to school anxiety.
