Looking Forward To

The coronavirus pandemic has changed our lives in ways we could have never imagined. The conditions under which we are living are unprecedented, and it has sometimes been difficult to adapt. Events have been cancelled, classes have been moved online, and most of us have been living under some form of quarantine. It can be easy to get wrapped up in all the things we can’t do and the situation can sometimes seem hopeless. When times get tough, the thing that always gets me through is remembering that there is always something to look forward to. Here are some of the things I’m excited about, that even a pandemic can’t take a way.

Autumn

Autumn arriving is the #1 thing I have been looking forward to for months. It’s my favorite season, and I get excited about it every year. I absolutely love the crisp weather, turning leaves, hot drinks, cozy sweaters, yummy candles, pumpkin flavored goodies… the list goes on! Not to mention that three of the best holidays—Halloween, Thanksgiving, and, of course, my birthday!—take place in the fall. Plus, I missed autumn last year because I was studying abroad during the fall semester, so I’m extra hyped this year.

If you think about it, fall is actually the best season suited to quarantine. It’s still warm enough to go on walks and spend time outside, but we are also inclined to cozy up indoors instead of going out to large gatherings.

Starting my Classes

School and college looks very different this year for just about everybody. My younger sisters (in middle and high school) have a hybrid of virtual and in-person school, and my college classes are completely online. Even so, that can’t take away the fact that I love learning. I’m super excited for my classes this semester, and I plan on making the most of the situation.

Halloween

I’ve seen some people worrying that Halloween is cancelled this year. No it’s not! We might not be able to go to parties, and trick-or-treating at strangers’ houses is probably out of the question. But we can still put up decorations, watch scary movies, and eat candy! Maybe I’ll bake some Halloween-themed cupcakes. Maybe my housemates and I will dress up and take pictures in our costumes. I’ll definitely be stocking up on candy corn. The possibilities are endless!

The Bachelorette

That’s right, there’s a new season of The Bachelorette coming out soon! It’s the perfect mindless reality TV show to distract us from reality and restore our faith in true love. Get ready for some cozy self-care nights, complete with face masks, tea, candles, and a lot of drama!

A COVID-19 Vaccine

We don’t know when this will happen. We could have a vaccine by the beginning of the new year, or it could be several months after that. But we know that eventually we will have one. Production for the top runners has already started, so that there will be doses ready to go when one is approved. We can take comfort in the fact that this pandemic won’t last forever. And in the meantime, let’s make the most of the things we can do.
