20 Things I Wish I Knew Before I was 20

  1. Find your passion. One of the most valuable things in life is finding what fuels your fire- and being able to do that for the rest of your life. Finding what you love will make your college decision easier, and ultimately, life easier.
  2. Spend time with your friends. Even if you’re antisocial, spending time with friends is such an important thing. Once you go off to college, things won’t be the same. So appreciate all of the people in your life.
  3. Be kind. To yourself. To your friends. To strangers. Be kind, always. It’s important.
  4. Don’t worry about relationships. I know you want to be in love so bad, but it can wait. Don’t rush a relationship with every cute guy you meet. There are so many more important things than dating.
  5. Appreciate your parents. Your parents give you everything you have, and they do more for you than you know. Don’t be mean to them. They can annoy you, but they don’t deserve to be talked to in a sassy way. Respect them.
  6. Don’t slack in school. It might not be the cool thing to do, but studying is important. The grades you have now will be the grades that determine your college.
  7. Date wisely. If you do decide to date, make sure the person you’re deciding to date is worth your time. And don’t be afraid to walk away from a toxic relationship.
  8. You are beautiful. You may not feel it. You may not see it. But you are.
  9. Travel as much as possible. Never say no to a trip! Seeing the world is miraculous, and something you should do as often as you can.
  10. Put yourself out there. Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone! Being able to try new things is a great asset, and it will bring you many blessings.
  11. Don’t obsess over social media. Be able to go to a concert without watching the stage from your phone screen. Go to the beach without having to get the perfect pic for instagram. Social media isn’t real life. So don’t stress too much.
  12. Being popular is overrated. It may seem the most important thing in high school is being able to sit at the popular table, but it’s not. You wanna know what’s cooler than being popular? Being nice to people.
  13. Find what style suits you. Don’t be afraid to experiment with your look! Whether it be style, clothes, or makeup- find what you like!
  14. Everyone is fighting their own battles. Nobody’s life is as perfect as it seems. Don’t compare your life to other peoples, because everyone has their own struggles.
  15. Nobody cares if you gained weight. Don’t stress out so much about those extra 5 pounds. You are so much more than your weight.
  16. Apologize. Learn how to genuinely apologize to people when you have wronged them. This will save you anger and resentment, and it will make you feel better about yourself.
  17. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Whether you failed a test, lost a friend, or just flat out feel insecure, don’t be so hard on yourself! All you can do is your best- and that’s always enough.
  18. Not everyone you lose is a loss. Be able to recognize that some people walk out of your life for a reason.
  19. Food is your friend. Don’t feel bad for eating “unhealthy” food! Learn to enjoy all types of food- and experiment with different kinds!
  20. There is no one else like you. You may not be the perfect person, but you were created for a reason. Don’t get caught up in trying to be like other people to fit in. Be yourself!
