Poem

Submission to the Unknown

There will be a silence,
A swell of the breast,
A straightening of the spine.
My feet will grow calloused in
anticipation of the journey ahead,
a trek into womanhood.
No longer a little girl, swinging
her feet, dipping toes over the precipice
of life. There will be no testing of waters,
only a dive into the abyss, promised to be unforgiving;
Only a dive into an abyss promising to be worthy of bowing to;
Only a dive into an abyss that will either swallow us whole, or allow us to float.
