No Social Media for a Month!

Social media is a big part of everyone’s lives. Unfortunately, our increasing reliance on it also brings to light some of its major negative aspects.

In the past few months, social media has been draining, and I spend hours a day scrolling through Instagram and Tiktok wasting time and slowly building up a lack of self-esteem and work ethic. I find that even when I have things to do, social media somehow trumps everything.

When I am not on social media, I spend the time being overly critical of myself (my appearance, my talents, etc.). These insecurities also stem from the internet and social media. I get my homework in on time, but it is never my best, and I lose sleep because I start my work so late.

The bottom line is that continuing to live in this routine is not healthy, and I am sure many of you guys can relate to my aforementioned sentiments.

For this reason, I challenge you guys to spend the next month without social media with me. We can hope that, by doing this, it will be a good step towards eliminating the bad habits.

Before we start this challenge, try and make a list of what you are hoping to achieve by staying off of social media.

For example, my list would look something like this:

By staying off of social media, I am hoping to

  1. Get to bed earlier
  2. Develop a routine
  3. Finish my homework early and do it well
  4. Build my self esteem
  5. Find time for myself and my hobbies
  6. Make school lunch for myself every night and also family dinner some nights
  7. Spend some quality time with my little sister
  8. Find time to research summer volunteer abroad programs
  9. Go on walks

Write your own list and keep it close to you during this next month as a form of motivation.

Next thing you are going to want to do before starting the challenge is eliminating any temptation. You can do this by deleting your social media apps or disabling them on your phone. By not having social media at your beck and call, you will not be able to give into the temptation of just clicking on those apps whenever you feel bored or unproductive.

Throughout the month I will write a detailed log about how the experience has been going, and I will share it with you guys when the month is over.

Good luck!
