Corona Got You Bored?

Don’t Let it Get you Down!

During this time of stress and uncertainty, the lives of many around the world have come to a halt. Being a high school student in the midst of many spring activities, I have found myself extremely bored and at many times, upset with the circumstances. To make the best of the situation, I have decided I would make use of my time, instead of letting it go to waste.

Below are some of the activities that I have found can make this time much more enjoyable and productive.

Try something creative

Doing something involving the arts is a great way to pass the time. There are also so many options: painting, drawing, filling in a coloring book, making things out of clay, and so many more.

Clean Out

Cleaning out always pays off. It is a great way to help out your family and get your house in order. You can organize your drawers, clothes, pantry, basement, or closets.

Spend time with family

With all the free time, it is good to relax with your family. Whether it’s watching a movie, going on a walk, or cooking dinner, this is a great time to bond with those you love the most.

Sell old items

After cleaning out, find all the items that you no longer use and post them on sites such as Ebay or Poshmark. I currently have a Poshmark account, and it is so easy and fun to use! This is a great time to make some money and pass some time.

Go for a walk or run

Even though all gyms and exercise classes are closed, it is still important to stay active. Getting outside for some fresh air alone or with a family member is a great way to get exercise and pass some time, while doing something productive.

Wake up early

With all the time in the world, it can be so easy to sleep the day away, but I have found that waking up early or at a reasonable time each day, creates better sleeping patterns and makes me feel much more productive. This gives you more time to spend for yourself or to make a delicious breakfast.

Start a new show and/or book

Sitting on the couch with a good book or Netflix show is a personal favorite. Some of my favorite Netflix shows include Gilmore Girls, Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, and Stranger Things. I have never been a big reader, but I have currently been hooked on The Selection series.

Print your favorite pictures

Recently, I printed some of my favorite pictures of me, my friends, and my family. I took all these pictures, and pasted them on a board, which I hung up in my room. I also bought some frames that I scattered around. Everyday, when I look around my room, I see all my favorite people and best memories. This always makes my day a little better.

Bake or cook

Find some of your favorite old or new recipes and get cooking. This can be very fun and rewarding when the final product is ready.

Watch the sunset

Spending time to look at the beauty of the sky can always make the day a little better.

Make your bed

This little task may seem small, but it makes all the difference in the world. If you do not complete any other thing in the day, at least you have made your bed! This starts off your day productively and can make your life feel a little more put together in all this mess.

This time may be stressful and scary, but it is important to remember that it does not have to be horrible. This is something we may never experience again, so making the most of this time to rest, stay safe, and reflect on the things most important in our lives is very precious. Even though it is disappointing to be unable to see friends or attend activities, we can use this time to rest, reflect, and complete the things that we normally would not have the time to do.
