Poem: Ten Thousand Little Things

Today I watched you walk by
and stop
to look at the tree brimming with 10,000 little birds just outside my door.
In an instant (we laughed),
20,000 little wings beat together
and swept
and gathered
and carried you
away.
I saw you look back at me and smile;
I waved
goodbye.
