Poem: In a Sea of Caucasian

Happy Black History Month ✊🏾!

I go to a predominantly white school and it hasn’t been easy; there are 10 people of color currently in the whole upper school, if memory serves. So, last year I decided to write a poem about it. The poem is about the slow emergence of people of color into the school. Hope you enjoy it!

In a Sea of Caucasian, there was one

Their journey was especially “fun”

People looked and stared, especially the impaired

But their journey was yet far from done

In a Sea of Caucasian, there was few

A term that sometimes means two

People looked and stared, especially the impaired

But still, nobody had a clue

In a Sea of Caucasian, there was some

And some people thought they were dumb

People looked and stared especially the impaired

But the some were yet far from numb

In a Sea of Caucasian, there was many

But still not as much as the plenty

Not as many people stared, but still the impaired

And it was hard to stay faithful to the many
