Sweet Briar Student Highlight: Emily Trunk

Girl Scout Gold Award Scholarships

Emily Trunk ’24

In partnership with the Girl Scouts of the USA, Sweet Briar has five annual scholarships for $2,500 that are awarded to incoming students who have completed the Gold Award. Here’s what first-year student and Gold Award Girl Scout Emily Trunk ’24 says about her experience:

“I’ve been a Girl Scout for 13 years, and I am a lifetime member. I attended Girl Scout summer camps, served my community and completed my Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. Sweet Briar has helped me continue to grow as a leader and drives its students to be bold, independent and strong women.

“For my Gold Award project, I educated my local community on Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Yellow Dot Program. This program provides a way for incapacitated drivers to communicate their emergency medical information in case of an accident or other emergency. It includes a yellow dot on the rear windshield of a car to indicate a brochure located in the glovebox with necessary medical information for first responders. During this project I hosted booths at community events and coordinated with emergency first responders to educate the public about this program.”
