During these hard times, you may be looking for a book to read and I have just the book to read.
The Hunger Games By Suzanne Collins is a dystopian novel about a teenagers life taken advantage of by a government. The book takes place in that was once known as North America, but now there is the nation of Panem. The capital is for rich people, and then there are 12 districts on the outside of the capital.
Poorer people live within the 12 districts and are forced to take part in the hunger games. You have to send one boy and girl between the ages of 12 & 18 to fight till the death. The Games are said to keep the districts in line and so the capital have something to entertain them. Katniss’s sister is chosen for their districts girl, but in the end Katniss volunteered as tribute.
Katniss had many thoughts about the capitol and they were not good.
The narrator ponders, “What must it be like, I wonder, to live in a world where food appears at the press of a button? How would I spend the hours I now commit to combing the woods for sustenance if it were so easy to come by? What do they do all day, these people in the Capitol, besides decorating their bodies and waiting around for a new shipment of tributes to rill in and die for their entertainment?”.
Katniss’s journey through the book and series is wonderful during this time. The courage from her is what we need during this time and the isolation in exactly what we are feeling.
