Letter to COVID-19

Currently the entire world is being impacted by COVID-19, Coronavirus, and the aftermaths of both. Due to mandatory quarantine, everyone is making a sacrifice.

This is my letter to COVID-19.

Dear COVID-19,

I need my friends and career back. I consider myself a professional student. Although you’re allowing us to learn virtually, it’s not enough. I miss the physicality of walking into the school each morning and catching the unsolicited stench of the lockers. I miss talking with my teachers and avoiding lunch. The worst part is that I didn’t know March 13th would be the last day of my junior year. There are many classmates I will probably never see again.

COVID-19, you have affected my fake career and true place of work. My hours of work are basically zero. Therefore, so is my bank account. As a teenager, I understand that my hours will not affect me as much as my coworkers. Many of them are the head of their households and have children. COVID-19, I will not say that I want my life back because that is selfish. It is unfair to those who sadly were unable to defeat you.

COVID-19, if there was something we did wrong please tell us. We simply want our way of life back. I miss late nights at the grocery store or going out to get frozen yogurt. These are all things that we enjoy and honestly took advantage of. COVID-19 please go away.

However, COVID-19, there are a few things I should thank you for. Because you took my school life away, I have been catching up on 12 years of missed sleep. It has been awesome. Although I must spend less time at work, work is now easier because no one can dine in. Lastly, thank you for forcing me to spend time with my family.

Ultimately, you are not welcome here. You are a terrorist, and you must go.

Sincerely,

Alex’ah Boone
