It’s Okay to Take Time for Yourself
Life gets crazy sometimes. Between school and work and life, it gets difficult to remember to take time for yourself.
I know I am guilty of overworking myself and not taking a moment to breathe. I will sacrifice sleep and my mental stability in order to get work done or finish trivial tasks throughout my day. I will work a long shift at the restaurant after coming out of a day full of classes and then I will tell myself to go meet that friend or do that thing for someone. I will do all that the next day and then the next, not giving myself enough time to rest and recuperate, until all my days have run together and I can’t remember up from down.
Your mental health is extremely important so it is extremely important to take what little free time you have — even if it is just that 15 to 30 minutes in between classes and work – to focus on your inner self. Take the time to check in with your mind, body, and soul. Ask yourself “What do I need to do to make sure I am relaxed and ready for the task at hand?” Or “How can I take care of myself during the day’s hectic schedule?”
Sit down and read a chapter from that book you’ve been dying to read. Watch an episode of your favorite show on Netflix. Find a quiet place and just rest your eyes. Go for a walk and breathe in the beautiful weather.
You’re not letting anyone down; you’re not lazy; you’re not any less hard working or committed if you take some time to focus on you.
