Study and Motivation Tips and Tricks

The transition back to school is always tricky, this year more than ever. I always start my year full of motivation and good intentions to study hard and stay on top of all my work. But no matter how many colorful packs of pens I buy and calendars I fill in, after a month of school I slowly start to loose all motivation. If you can relate, this article is for you! Entering my senior year of high school, I’ve picked up some tips and ideas to made studying and productivity less of a challenge, so hopefully they help you as much as they’ve helped me!

    GET OUTSIDE!

I can’t stress this enough. Leave your phone and any distractions inside, and grab a water bottle and your books. Sometimes all we need to be more productive is a change of scenery. Find a place that’s not too crowded, and study by yourself or with a friend.

    PEN AND PAPER

This can differ from person to person, but for me, writing things on paper as opposed to typing helps me memorize material ten times better. If you choose to take digital notes, make sure they’re well organized, and review the notes regularly.

    SET A TIMER

If you find yourself struggling to start your work, set a thirty minute timer. Complete as much work as you can before the timer goes off. Take a five minute break, then repeat until you’re done! You’ll be surprised how much faster time goes by, and it’s much more difficult to become distracted.

    TAKE A TIME LAPSE VIDEO

This is my favorite tip, and the only way I can get through hours of studying with minimal distraction. Set up your phone on a time lapse video, and film yourself completing all your work. You won’t be tempted to check your phone, and it’s super satisfying to watch the video once you’re done studying.

    Have a great school year!
