I’ll Stand Out

I'll Stand Out

When the day is done, and all is said,

no one knows, what goes through my head.

But the lies they feed, about image and shape,

they get to my heart and cover my mouth with tape.

Stand up, stand out, they say sometimes,

but don’t be weird, they control my mind.

Tossing, turning, making me hate myself,

if I don’t do this, wear that shirt or ruin my health.

Skinny, fat, why do you care?

If I have red, pink or gray, in my hair.

Let me out, of this loop, the peer pressure, and stress,

stop killing my happy, and giving duress.

I’ll stand out someday, without a peep,

from the people who butchered my self-esteem.
